Here's how we did it:

Old rough stucco had lots of patches and different textures.

There were also loose areas and several layers of peeling paint.

Old stucco is chipped about every three inches

Old stucco is chipped about every three inches or so using electric chipping hammers.

cement mortar mixed with half and half flex-con and water

Our basecoat is cement mortar mixed with half and half flex-con and water.

the wall is rodded off

We had to put the mortar on thick to cover the rough finish.

Here, the wall is rodded off with a scrap piece of weep screed.

The basecoat is left rough

The basecoat is left rough by combing with a rubber float.

finish coat is put on and rubbed with a rubber float.

Blobs are dashed on using a stiff brush.
