Stucco patio and stair remodel in Washington, DC concrete coating
Old stucco torn off down to block. Concrete stairs  are chipped up to be recoated. We use a chemical bonding admixture in the mortar to be able to do this. You may have seen our concrete coating before.
Flex-con Stairs are re-done by chipping up the concrete
Scratch coat on old block. Mortar is mixed
using Flex-con half and half with water to ensure a good bond.
Stairs are re-done by chipping up the concrete,
forming with 1 by 6's, and filling with mortar.
Here the mortar was mixed with pure Flex-con,
and no water, to make sure the mortar never comes off.
scuppers weeps
Old barrel tile left over from the roof are used for scuppers, or for drainage. This was my idea. They look a lot better than plastic pipe, were free, and match the roof as well as the quarry tile on the floor and the cap. Detail is formed and filled. Holes are cut for the weeps.
Brown coat on the side wall showing
            interesting cove detail cap prevents
water from filtering in the stucco on the top
Brown coat on the side wall showing interesting cove detail. My employees sure did a nice job on the cove. Cap, or top of wall is done with quarry tile to match the floor, and the spanish roof tile scuppers. The quarry tile cap prevents water from filtering in the stucco on the top, and provides a drip edge. Note how the tiles are put on out of level, or on a slant to allow water run off. This will have a couple more cool details.

quarry tile Color from La Habra stucco
Edge of quarry tiles is temporarily supported with this wood strip until mortar sets up.
Brown coat is nearly finished. Note how the scuppers protrude out past the wall to keep water from running down wall, so our wall lasts forever, at least I hope.
Another view of the same thing. Finish coat will be a color from La Habra stucco. We'll have tile inlays, decorative bands and other cool features. Please check back to see the finished product.
The columns on either side of the steps will have stucco instead of tile. Top will be slightly rounded for good water run-off. Concrete planters will sit on top.
