Stucco replaced on this 1909 Rowhouse
Petworth area
Washington, DC.
Here's how we did it:
The old lime and sand stucco was real soft and crumbly and had to come off. There was way too much sand
in the mortar from the beginning.
Mortar scraped off the brick easily.
Scratch coat was put on the old brick with an acrylic bonding admixture.
A color sample was made and approved. A block works good for this. Finish is white portland and the white sand
is Q-rok by US Silica. Youthful Coral is a bright pink, but our sample turned out a little orange.
Tar paper and metal lath is put on the wood framed parts.
Columns and outside corners are formed with one by lumber. Arch is formed with masonite.
Columns are filled and rodded off.
Arches are filled and rodded off.
Color variations accent the natural cement finish.
This stucco should last longer than 113 years this time.
