Stucco by the competition replaced on this chimney
Cross Junction, Virginia
Here's how we did it:
The house including the chimney was stuccoed about 10 years ago. Stucco is loose and peeling off. You can see every block joint.
The chimney was covered with EIFS cloth, a thin EIFS basecoat and a synthetic finish. This material was made to
be put on styrofoam. We also peel this material off painted stucco, concrete, etc. Please click here for more about this on the stucco news.
One good use for styrofoam is covering and protecting metal roofs.
Most of this offensive material peeled off easily.
What didn't peel off easily had holes poked through it into the block. We used our usual bonding admixture in the scratch coat.
Basecoat is an honest 3/4" thick. The chimney cap, or crown is redone. Note how the top is angled for water run off. Originally,
the top was level creating damage from water soaking in. The competition doesn't know water runs downhill.
We put on our signature flagstone chimney shoulders. The top is covered with metal flashing which is concealed by the mortar. The stone protrudes from the edges for a drip edge. The stones aren't porous providing a more reliable material than stucco.
The finish is synthetic to match the house.
Our signature coins on the top include a quarter showing Washington crossing the Delaware river.
Color matches super close.
