Stucco replaced on this historic 1909 townhouse
in the Petworth area
Washington, DC
Here's how we did it:
Old pebble dash stucco was real crumbly and falling off.
Wood framing had rib lath. There was no sheathing or insulation.
No sheathing gave us the opportunity to put in insulation.
String lines are used to set forms for the elliptical arches. quarter inch masonite is used to form the curves.
Columns are formed with one by fours.
Brown coat on the porch and bay windows.
Top of arch is trued up by putting on one by fours and filling in.
Finish coat is white Portland cement, lime, and white sand.
