Stucco will not bond to painted block. Sometimes
paint on bonding agents are used, but they fail over time. Loose stucco is pulled off and wall is chipped. A scratch coat is applied using an acrylic bonder in the mortar. |
The stucco gables are loose and are torn off and redone. BTW, the homeowner was my older sister's eighth grade science teacher. It is a small world. |
Gables are finished with REAL portland cement and REAL sand. Color is from Expo stucco in California | White portland and white sand is dry mixed in the mortar box with dry color. |
We stuccoed the chimney on the house behind
this one the winter before last for Morris-Day. |
I plan to upload a picture of the chimney soon. |
A brown coat is put on and straightened to the thickness of the old brown coat. | Stone joints are tooled in after mortar sets firm. |
After the horizontal joints are aligned with the old
joints, the vertical joints are scored. The butt end of an old putty knife works good for this. |
The stones are the put on using color mortar.
I used leftover La Habra 24 for the tan and brown stones and black paint colorant for the gray stones. There is a lot to be said for Permastone. The method is out of style but it still remains as a testimony to a durable and long lasting form of stucco. |
