Sure looks better than that cheap drywall ! Plaster walls and ceilings avoid the taped together paper wall panel look. | Veneer plaster basecoat applied to blue
board. Blue board
is like sheetrock, only blue. First the joints are scratched in then the whole ceiling coated. Veneer basecoat plaster is super hard. |
White coat is troweled smooth. I used Keene's cement and lime for a finish coat. Keene's cement is a gypsum plaster that develops incredible strength. I used it here because it sets slow, allowing us to finish the big ceiling and big walls with the same batch. We used to use Keene's cement years ago in hospital and school bathrooms not only for resistence to abuse, but for water resistent properties. |
Window surrounds were done with Milestone
for a cool marble look. The finish has a stone like look and feel giving a true 3-D look to the faux marble. This is my signature on this project. |
Finish coat on the new stucco addition is white portland and sand. |
` | Marble-look door surround adds a unique
contrast with
the white stucco. Solid portland cement basecoat and finish will guarantee me my project will last. For more about Milestone, click here: http://www.artisanfinishes.com/ |
An attractive stucco addition designed by Patrick at Bud Adams, architects. We have done several Bud Adams projects. | Addition (background) is stuccoed to match the existing house. I duplicated the finish by mixing 2 different grits of sand with white portland and lime. The natural color looks great. The mottling and color variations add a rich, hand done look. |
We embedded an old, weathered plaster plaque in the wall by cutting into the block. Plaque is then mortared in with the brown coat. | The inlay adds a cool effect to the wall,
and looks right at home in this old historic neighborhood. |
Another day, another nickel (inflation
adjusted dollar).
