Plaster molding restored
Annandale United Methodist Church
Annandale, Virginia
Here's how we did it:
Water damaged plaster molding is falling apart.
Loose areas removed. One person holds a shop vac and the other cuts with a diamond blade.
A section of the old molding is cut off to make a template.
A piece of sheet aluminum is cut and filed to an exact fit.
A wood backup is made with a jig saw. Here is my finished running mold.
Aluminum sliders are adjusted to align exactly with the old molding.
Cove is filled and straightened with a six foot rod. This must be dead straight for all this to work.
A wood strip is screwed to the cove section for the running mold to ride on The old plaster is painted with plaster weld for insurance that this patch will never fail.
Molding is packed with molding plaster and lime and mold is pushed along. This takes about 10-12 passes
to fill in.
Last pass. All that is left is to fill in a few teeny spots.
Edges are trued up and a couple little areas to fill in and we are done.
