Historic plaster repaired
in Baltimore
A few notes about this project :
Floors, stairs and carpets are covered real good with plastic and tape.
Plastic runners are used throughout to avoid tracking.
Frog tape avoids peeling paint off wood trim.
I set up a mixing room in the basement to mix lime and clean water buckets. We used a ton of molding plaster and lime, literally.
Water damaged plaster is stripped off. We had 5 stairway walls to repair.
Old wood lath is covered with metal lath. Inside corner is reinforced.
Curved wall is tied in with metal lath. Curve is sort of tornado shaped.
Old thirsty bricks are wet by splashing with a brush.
Molding plaster and lime are gauged on the mortar board. More on how this is done here on Stucco News.
Patches are finished and troweled shiny smooth.
Showing off this circa 1870 plaster. Curved walls, tornado ceiling, niche and hand run moldings are still in good shape.
Run in place molding on this curved wall is completely seamless.
