Historic Stucco Replacement
Washington, DC
The 51st State
Here's how we did it:
A gap in the coping and drip edge create a water funnel damaging the stucco.
Scaffold is in the way but the other side of the gable is the same way.
Kick on the bottom of the coping is angled into the wall instead of out and away from the wall.
Excessive cracking and staining are cause by this, not to mention areas of the stucco coming loose.
Solution is simple: We slid inch and five eights window cap under the coping creating a drip edge.
You can see where the kick on the coping is angled in instead of out driving water into the wall.
Another view. The old stucco is stripped off leaving the bricks nice and rough for a good bond. The window cap extends well
past our finished thickness of 3/4".
Here, the wall is filled in and rodded off.
Original 1927 cast window sills were rejuvenated. We formed around the sills and filled in with white portland and white sand.
Real cement and sand finish is colored using paint tint.
