Siding replaced with stucco
Waterford, Virginia
Here's how we did it:
We pulled off the siding revealing silver cardboard called Therma Ply. I thought there is a code
saying the corners should be reinforced with plywood or OSB. We sealed around the windows with Protecto Wrap.
Better than most metal chimney caps we see. The center is lower than the sides allowing water to pool.
Pooling water runs right down between the gap on the flange. Nobody is coming up here with a 40 foot ladder to inspect it.
Of course, we corrected this.
Siding is easily pulled off. Chimney is one coat stucco to match the front and side of the house.
The back of the windows are sealed with Protecto wrap tape. Any water that penetrates the stucco won't
run behind the window.
A cross section of one coat stucco. One coat stucco has a thin basecoat and a synthetic finish.
We cut of the one coat stucco to put flashing over the stone water table.
We made our own self furring lath by beating flat lath with a hammer. Materials have been in short supply.
We put on a counter flashing on the roofs. Flashing is overlapped with our weep stops and tar paper.
One coat stucco is chipped and a bonding coat applied.
Synthetic finish is by Total Wall.
Color matches on the money.
Columns on the pavillion are white.
