Over
13 years of jobs in progress, update #125!
Jobs in progress
contains some 400+ pages. Here, you will find a wealth of information on the
world's oldest building trade, plaster,
both interior plaster, and exterior cement plaster, also known as
stucco. Please check it out.
A table of contents is forthcoming, like I did on the Stucco News.
The stucco work on this nice old 1910 church is incredible. The moldings, columns, bands, etc., were done in place or hand tooled. A lot of the details were cast in cement and stuck on. |
|
The interior is just as nice. We'll be working on the inside plaster after the roof is done. The interior has chestnut doors and trim, terrazzo floors and a lot of fine plaster work. Please click here or on the pictures for more.(Opens new window) |
The
columns weren't in real bad shape, but years of peeling
paint, and gobbed on crack filling made them a candidate
for a re-surface. The stucco on these columns was hand done in place, not cast concrete lifted up with a crane. The bottom of the column was wider, creating the illusion the column was supporting weight. Please click here or on the pictures for more. |
Scaffold around
the columns. |
The panel around the 1910 block is
re-done. Please click here or on the pictures to see more. |
This spalling chimney has seen better days. We stabilized the crumbling brick work and re-did the stucco. |
|
1910 block taped off, panel resurfaced
with white Portland cement and white sand. |

A large addition on the back of this old townhouse is stuccoed near the U Street corridor in Washington, DC for Dorrier Construction. Color variations and mottling show off the REAL color cement finish. Please click here or on the pictures to see more. |

We used EXPO finish in 1999, so I was able to get
fog coat to match from EXPO Stucco. Fog coat only works
on unpainted stucco. We mixed a bag of fog coat with 10
gallons of water and sprayed it on with garden pumps. The surface looks like new again and so much nicer than paint (and a lot cheaper). The color is "Caffe Latte". |
We corrected
the leak where the scupper from the flat roof went into
the collector head. Since patches always tend to show, particularly on color work, we patched the wall and re-color coated it so it looks like 1999 again. . Please click here to see what we did in 1999. |
Flashback to 1992.
Here we are 20 years ago putting the finish (REAL white
Portland and REAL sand, of course) on the stair tower. |
Stucco can always be recoated if it never has been
painted. |
I coated the concrete on the porch about
10 years ago and never published it on my site. The finish coat is white portland and black sand. |
A lot of black stuff has washed off the
roof and has give my steps sort of a granite like
patina, like the curbs in DC. |

We had a
lot of patching on this renovation in Washington, DC for
Whitcomb and Carrocio. The siding was pulled off and the original stucco was repaired. |
The front of this house in Arlington, VA is
re-stuccoed for Clarendon Home Services. The finish coat is left white, and will probably be painted. Sorry if your project didn't make it here this update. It's been a long time since I updated my site, and I'll have more for the next time. |
