Spanish style house
Cleveland Park
Washington, DC.
Here's how we did it:
The house was painted with this textured paint that was peeling off. Walls are chipped and loose areas are knocked off.
The old ice box door was patched. We took off the plywood and replaced it with brick.
Walls are chipped preparing for our bonding coat. The stucco was cut off the bottoms and new flashing put on, not only on the roofs, but practically all the bottoms. House is stucco over terra cotta blocks.
Old 1921 steel flashing was badly rusted. Flashing is replaced with aluminum.
We cut off the stucco at the bottom and flashed over the concrete sidewalk. Filling this gap with caulking or other material
does very little good because water penetrates the stucco. Flashing goes under the stucco.
Soffit vents are put in the stucco soffits.
Power lines are wrapped with a non conductive material. We used correx. Cardboard also works good.
Window sills are formed and filled with white portland and white sand. We used styrofoam for the forms. The styrofoam is just temporary.
White window sills offer a nice contrast to the walls which are banana cream.
The chimney was also done with a natural white.
Foreign coins are embedded in the top of the chimney.
A Puerto Rico commemorative quarter is embedded in the gable end..
The homeowner is from Puerto Rico.
Badly deteriorated planter is re-done.
Band on the top of the planter is left white to match the sills.
We added four more weep pipes. I painted the PVC pipes bronze to look like metal.
Just like 1921 again.
