The chimney and the cricket never had any flashing or metal valley. This chimney has been leaking since 1938.

2 x 4's are nailed on either side of the fireplace and filled in with brown mortar.

Our brown mortar is gypsum plaster and sand. Lightweight aggregate plaster like structo-lite is a lot weaker.

Bull nose and the face of the mantle are run using molding plaster and lime

Finished fireplace is as solid as the proverbial rock.
