The house had no sheathing, which allowed us to put in insulation. Whenever there is no sheathing,
diagonal bracing was used to keep the wall from racking.
A view of the old wood lath and the homemade tarpaper.
We put on store bought tar paper and metal lath.
Brown coat is wet down twice a day for 4 days before the finish coat is applied. This damp curing increases the strength and reduces shrinkage cracks.
A close up of the 1926 style bag stipple. This is called a bag stipple because these textures were done with a burlap bag.

Townhouse re-stucco in Reston, Virginia
All the arches in this neighborhood have failed due to lack of flashing. We put flashing under the metal roof that caps the top of our new stucco. This will be here for centuries.
We used metal lath and stucco over the old peeling textured paint on plywood.
We put flashing on the roof and our drainage weeps. This sytem of synthetic finish on durock needs to stop. It is impossible
to flash this durock "system".
We put metal lath over the durock system that was all peeling.
3/4" of mortar on the finished wall.

I have tried to warn the world to please stop using this durock with a synthetic finish. I see this
durock used a lot here in Northern Virginia and the Washington area, but it fails. Please follow the links below to
see what I wrote about the durock system.
