A view of the back. | Color variations and mottling show off REAL portland cement stucco
and REAL sand.
Color #73 is a sunny yellow. |
Holes drilled in real keystone with a hammer drill. | Nails holding masonite forms from last update removed, leaving a solid window surround. |
If you remember the gap for the keystone in the last update, this is why. Lag bolt is screwed in the wall to support the
keystone.
The idea is the keystone is hung like a picture. |
Mortar is spread on back to stick keystone in place. |
Mortar joints are made by putting tape on. | Surrounds finished with La Habra number 86 "sandstone".
Tape is removed when mortar starts to set, exposing faux joint. |
Surrounds are the taped off and finish color applied to walls.
The end result is bullet proof window surrounds, instead of flimsy foam. Cement stucco colors closely imitate the stones. |
