Arlington, Virginia
REAL cement stucco. REAL cement details (no flimsy styrofoam)
REAL cement stucco finish.
Side wall of this 3 story stucco addition.
Finish coat on front.
Finish coat is white portland cement and white sand. Color is made using a paint tint.
Window sills are my design. Top has a steep angle and tucks up well behind drip edge on the window.
Top of chimney is wrapped with a rubber membrane sealed with rubber tape.
Finished chimney. Top is rounded off and a band is put around the top for a drip edge.
Two sizes of sand were used in the finish coat, fine and medium.
Silica sand for the finish is Q-ROK by US Silica in West Virginia.
Custom color is made by using paint tint.
Historic stucco replaced
circa 1830 house
Harper's Ferry, West Virginia
Revisiting this interesting job from 2017. I only published a few little pictures back then. This project deserves it's own page.
Just like 1830 again.
The old stucco had been cleaned off and the stones were patched up with new mortar.
Our finish coat was scored to look like limestone block. The finish coat is white portland and lime
and coarse sand. The finish was floated real rough, probably like the original, before scoring.
These stones were probably left exposed originally. These areas exposed because
the stones projected out way past the others.
The old lime and sand mortar. The sand (apparently) came from the nearby Shenandoah River.
Shenandoah River sand has a nice blond color, There were limestone kilns at the bottom of the hill
by the river in the late 1700's and early 1800's.
We plastered the house 3 doors down on the left (inside plaster) in 1994. Believe it or not,
we used to plaster houses.
Plaster ceiling replaced
Takoma Park, Maryland
New metal lath is screwed over the old wood lath.
We plastered the ceiling the next morning. We used molding plaster and lime.
Finished ceiling. Sure looks better than cheap drywall.
Pebble dash stucco chimney
Takoma Park
The 1916 lime and sand stucco was stripped off the wood lath.
White pebble dash stucco matches the original historic chimney.
A close up of the finished chimney. White pebble dash stucco matches on the money.
A close up of the base we re did.
Chimney re stucco
in Haymarket, Virginia
We repaired and re coated the original stucco (cement plaster) chimney. It had never been painted.
Band on top was formed with styrofoam and filled. Don't worry, the styrofoam is temporary.
