Stucco and plaster jobs in progress #174
Updated April, 2023 !
Over 24 years of jobs in progress !
REAL color stucco addition
Alexandria, Virginia
REAL cement stucco. REAL cement details (no flimsy styrofoam)
9 month old one coat stucco is ripped off.
Plywood sheathing is wet and is already starting to rot.
One of the reasons for failure is the area below the window is level and not angled down to drain water away from the building.
A window on another job was done like this and is severely rotted after 5 years.
Natural cement finish is left white on the details and off white on the rest of the addition.
Finished addition.
Ring detail is run using a swing arm. White portland cement is used because it sets fast and is harder.
Finished ring is the real deal. No cheap durn styrofoam.
Plaster repair
Friendship Methodist Church
Friendship, Maryland
Lighting upgrade requires holes filled with lath and plaster. Here, we are putting on metal studs and metal lath.
New lights are modern lightweight LED's.
Old vermiculite texture is matched on the money.
Everything is covered real good with plastic and dropcloths.
Color plaster fireplace
Arlington, Virginia
Surface is painted with plaster weld and veneer plaster basecoat applied.
Finish is Keene's Cement and lime. Color is "alabaster" from Sherwin-Williams.
Stucco facelift
Great Falls, Virginia
We re-coated two sides of the house. Finish is white portland and white sand. We later put on fog coat from La Habra stucco, like we did originally.
Discoloration and dark streaking warranted a re-do.
House was fogged with The same color we used in 2001.
Stucco Chimney
Manassas, Virginia
Flashing was peeling away from the chimney. Also, the flashing should go under the stucco, and not over the stucco.
1940's chimney was in need of new stucco.
Flashing corrected. Band on top forms a drip edge, to extend the life of the chimney.
Finished chimney.
Roll detail caps the edge of the stones and provides a drip edge.
We embedded quarters on the top of the chimney, including commemorative quarters from the prominent women series.
Flashing and stucco repair
in Delaplane, Virginia
Roofs were leaking and needed new flashing. This circa 1901 house was stuccoed probably in the 1930's
Stucco is cut off above the roof flange about 5 inches up.
S shaped flashing is put on over the roof flange and screwed to the wood sheathing.
Gap is filled in with lath and cement mortar. The original dash on finish is matched on the money.
Note the peeling paint and stain on the wall. Lack of a kick out flashing diverts water into the wall.
New counter flashing and a kickout flashing.
