Pebble dash stucco addition
in Falls Church, VA
For Hemphill Associates
Pebble dash stucco is duplicated on a large addition on this 1903 house in Falls Church.
A view of the back of the new addition
Stairs, patio and everything else is covered with correx, (thick plastic sheets), poly sheeting
and tape. The goal is zero clean up.
3/8 gravel matches the old stucco on the money.
Chimney re-stucco
in Great Falls, Virginia
Three sources of stucco failure.
1. Flashing is OVER the stucco and not UNDER the stucco. 2. Water is running down between the
gutter and the wall due to a lack of kick out flashing or the end cap leaking. 3. The gutter is too narrow
for a steep roof. Staining on the chimney shows wher the water over flows the gutter.
Worse yet is this water funnel chimney cap and water funnel bands. The bands are foam EIFS that absorb water like a sponge. Please click on the details link below for more.
Chimney crown is re-done. Decorative bands provide a drip edge to avoid water infiltration.
Finish coat.
Historic chimney
in Upperville, Virginia
Stucco is popping off this chimney in sheets.
Badly deteriored brick chimney is repaired with our super mortar.
Mortar is mixed with strong bond, an acrylic admixture which is not only a bonding adhesive,
but increases the compressive strength of cement mortar dramatically.
Band at top is formed and filled with cement mortar. Finish coat is white portland and white sand.
Finished chimney.
A view of our flagstone chimney shoulder. The curve over the top of the flagstone hides the metal flashing. Of course we
re-did the flashing at the roof.
House is painted yellow and the chimney is left natural white.
Plaster molding repair
in Washington, DC
Moldings are damaged by a plumbing leak.
Loose areas are chopped out and painted with plaster weld.
Molding members are filled with molding plaster and lime and tooled in with mitering rods.
Top member is filled and straightened with a six foot rod.
Color stucco
in Northeast Washington, DC
Natural cement finish is colored with paint tints. The snowstorm stopped us for a while.
Even though zip wall counts as a vapor barrier, we still put up a layer of tar paper.
The decorative bands have drain holes at the bottom to work with our drainage mat.
We are nearly finished. Please check the next update for details.
