Koster products are incredibly water resistant. They are often used for what is called
negative waterproofing. That is, when walls are waterproofed from the inside when it is impractical
to waterproof from the inside.
The scratch coat is sprayed with a bonding emulsion.
The Koster basecoat is troweled on and rodded off.
Koster plaster finish is troweled smooth. This would be great for a plaster shower where a smooth troweled
finish is desired. Koster can be used for swimming pools, ponds, etc. The finish color is a nice white, but a color
can be added. I look forward to working with these materials more in the future.
Real lath and stucco replaced on this 1936 house in Falls Church, Virginia
Lack of flashing above the window causes rot below the window.
Flashing is put on horizontal tudor members and sealed with tape to the old sheathing. Then, the flashing is overlapped with tarpaper.
This is important: The diagonal tudor member is flashed also, and a spout is formed in the "V".
If you look at old tudor houses, there is rot or flaking paint below these V's.
And, of course, we put flashing over the window.
New flashing, window sealed from the back, we put on tarpaper and self-furring metal lath.
The wall is filled out to the original one-inch thickness.
Finish coat is REAL portland cement and REAL sand. Color from Sherwin-Williams is added.
